Spoke with McDickens this morning...He had a very solid game, especially when you consider it's February!
...He took second place overall (Sam Grammar was first) in what sounded like a great venue. I believe Mike said he won 3 events and the numbers from those events were excellent...both hammers, Light Hammer (I think he said 115), Heavy Hammer ( 97ish) and the Caber (12's)...he'll be back this evening and will probably post better details.

Great job to Mr. Dickens!
I will be the new, improved and almost as good-looking Mike Wills.

The Arizona Highland games is a great competition at a great venue and they treat everyone great. The Am's even get a goody bag with a T-shirt, a rub on tatoo, and some stickers. Not too mention a free lunch. Then, afterwards, you can hang out and the AD buys the athletes beers. And the athletes buy the other athletes beers. And so on.

I had a really good time and threw okay. We started with the hammers, I went 97+ and 115+ and won both.
Then braemar, big ugly lopsided stone. Grammar won that with 33'.
Open stone, Josh Grace won with a 44 footer. It was on awkward, flat stone and the trig was up hill. All the trigs where on a slight incline, by the way.
Heavy weight, all I could muster was 32+ and Sam hit 33 on his final toss.
Same with the LWFD, I hit 68-5 and Sam hit 69-1 on his final toss and went 71+ on extras.
Caber, we had a scored qualifier (18' x 99.5lbs) which knocked out all but 4 - me, Mike Susmark, Josh Grace and Sam. I hit 2 1200s the other guys had 1145s and 1215s before Grace literally snapped the caber on a bale out. Never seen a caber break clean in two. :o It was a nice 18-6 by 117 pounder with a nice taper.
WOB  I went out at 13 feet. Cleared 12, then at 13: 1st attempt - smashed into the bar, 2nd attempt - left it out front, 3rd - smashed into the bar. Disappointed, but not too much because I got great rips on the weight, good height, etc.
So, I finished 6th in the WOB which put me in 2nd overall.
Isaac Burchett was in the field, too. It is crazy what that guy can do weighing about 185.

It was pretty sweet hanging out with the pro's all day, too. Every time I saw them talking technique, or heard them talking training, eating, sleeping, etc. I would sidle up and listen in. Picked up some good tips and free lessons that way.

Hey Mr. Fay, how is the body treat'n ya? I finally worked some trunk twist in and man you can tell what side I injured. I can handle about 40 more pounds twisting to the right than I can to the left.

Things are progressing nicely though ;)

Hey brothamon, thanks for the inquiry. I got out of the sling about two weeks ago and have started rehab this week. Still working on getting range of motion back in the left arm. I'm down about 15 lbs. in bodyweight but have been working around the injury as best I can... doing right-side work with DBs and whatever leg work I can do. Pretty mundane, but better than nothing!

I hope you are feeling well and ready for an exciting season... later holmes.
