Materiels for weights

Postby forrester on Wed Mar 12, 2008 8:34 am

General question to throw out to the masses... Does any one have any idea where i can get stock for making weights? I have a bored welder who needs a new project before he can come up with some new mischief to get into    ..... I figure this will serve two purposes, keep him out of trouble and get me some better weights! :) I have all the chain and shackles I need, but need handles and steel or iron for the actual weight... any suggestions?
The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.

Everyone needs believe in something. I believe I'll have another scotch.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

I have some home made weights a friend gave me and they are made out of 6" round stock.

This was the place I was pointed when looking for metal for another project: http://www.baltimorescrap.com/

Also try looking for scrap yards around shipping ports.

A 55# bumbbell with the handle cut out, chain and handle come out to be almost exactly 28#.
Looking to get ahold of an 80# dumbbell now for the 42#'s.
Not much welding there though.

You want a welding project, try building WOB and Sheaf standards. That's on my to do list.

Or how about a caber-ator? Saw it somewhere here.

I sell the round and 'D' handles plus other equipment. E-Mail me at oldcelt100@aol.com and I will send my price list.
