Rhode Island Road Trip??

Postby miked on Mon May 05, 2008 9:37 pm

Hey folks,

It looks like Holly and Sophie may not be up for the road trip up to Rhode Island. So, I wanted to see if not, would anyone be interested in piling ino the Minivan of the Apocalypse and cruising up there. It is in two weeks, the weekend of the 17th.

It is about 7-8 hours. My plan is to leave early Friday morning, spend the night up there, compete Saturday, then drive for a few hours Saturday night. Get up Sunday and bring it home.

It is a great little comp. Kate Mason has taken over the AD duties this year because Wayne Hill has "retired". So, there is a concerted effort by the athletes to help make it through this transitional period.

Let me know if you are interested. BJ? Jeff? John? Charles? Anyone? Anyone?

p.s. Frank Henry is going.

We're going up in Lee's Dad's Volvo station wagon (he's coming down for Katie's-- Lee's oldest--college graduation) and we're flying back. Hope to see some MASA'ns up there. 8-)

Mike,

Caryn, my brother and I will be at the Whispering Pines Campground Friday and Saturday if you want to join us. The camp site is about 5 miles from the games. See you in a few weeks!

I'm thinking about it...Off course heather will probably be very unhappy with me if I hitch-a-long in the Minivan of Death and Mayhem, but I'm still thinking about it.

Hey Charles,

Actually, Heather was talking about riding along in the MOA. She thinks you probably aren't gonna go.

I have a hotel room reserved. All those who may want to go can camp out in it with me, or we can crash at Sam and Kate's, though we would need to check with them.

The trip can be pretty cheap by the time we divvy all the expenses up. I figure we can manage up to 5 people in the MOA, with gear.

Charles I wouldn't be mad I would be extatic that you are going!!!!!!!! Yay!
Kate told me it was a five hour drive for she and sam to get to SoMd, so it would mean like a 6 hour trip up there right? Was I lied to?

OK, I'm in. I just looked at my calander and I'm off that Friday ( I thought I was working but I'm not, woohoo!) so I can leave anytime. This could be just like a Brady bunch reunion tour. I can share the hotel too Mike unless it's already booked otherwise I am happy to pull up some floor space at chez Kate's. What ev's. We can sort that out.

Looks like we have me, Charles, Heather, and John so far. BJ wants to come, but doesn't want to play hookie.

Dude, no way you can leave before 3 pm???

So, one seat left. We have to have some room for gear/luggage.

Sounds like Mike booked a hotel and I'm happy to share that with him, I'll bring the ear plugs off course, and John if that's what we're doing. If Mike decides on other arrangements, then I'd need a mat to sleep on at your place ;-). I guess I like the idea of staying closer to the games site if possible but your fierce athleticism and bountious beauty is matched only by your generosity and open heartedness. Too poetic?

Yep, I have a hotel room about half an hour south of the games. It has a king size bed. This is going to be interesting.

So, I figure we can probably get three into the room. And, make arrangements to meet Sam and/or Kate to drop off the fourth. At this point, we have four making the road trip.

Damnit Charles, I forgot about the snoring. John, Heather do either one of you snore??

There is alway room at the camp site for the extras, as long as you bring a tent. Site is 5 miles from the games. Think they have cabins as well.

I have a queen size air mattress that I will bring along. If any of you have a sleeping bag or anything to help out, bring it too.

so, we have to figure out the logistics of getting out of town next friday. The reason I want to leave early is to avoid afternoon traffic in NY. Each of the last two years the 7 hour trip has turned into about 10 b/c of the traffic up there.
The sooner the better. I figure I will probably pick you guys up as I head north. email me your addresses so I can see where I have to pick you up: phatmiked@hotmail.com

Just a heads up.. If you want to avoid NY traffic on a Friday.. then you NEED to be through Greenwich CT BEFORE 3pm... Any time after that and you're in it..
So if it's a 7 hour drive for you.. then you need to leave by 8am..
Trust me on this one.. I've lived in CT all my life..
