Caber Challenge at Penn Ren

Well, as all those who attended Bridgeport know, I pretty much put a big brother thumpin on Willsy in the caber. :o

Yeah, unfortunately the Grand Caber Challenge did not quite live up to the hype. I mean, I turned the caber. But, Willsy did not. Maybe it was too heavy.

So, being the sporting gentleman that I am, I have decided to give Mike Wills a chance at redemption by laying down the other glove and proposing another caber challenge at Penn Ren.

Don't worry Mike, the caber we will be tossing seems to be a little lighter than the one at B-Port, although it is 4" longer. I helped Big Mac load it on his truck yesterday. And, I have not had any pulls on it, so it should be a fair comp.

There it is. Mike Wills' chance for redemption. However, when I beat him this time, I expect a big ol' sammich or meat pie.

The original caber challenge was based on the tootsie roll...are we ever going to break it out again?

We also need to consider a HWFD challenge...that could get very interesting.

If I were you, Wills, I'd challenge Dickens to a sheaf contest. You didn't hear it from me, but he can't throw sheaf worth a $#!+. ;)

Now, just need to find someone for the stone, LWFD, Hammer, and WOB.

Any Takers??

Ha! You forget I practice with you all the time.

Okay. Okay. Let it not be said that I am not a gentleman who respects those who are more advanced in their days than me.

I will spot you -2 feet. Deal? ;)

Caber tossing in the sand adds new degrees of difficulty. First is trying to get a run in the sand, then the caber end hitting and trying to get a bite into sliding sand rather than solid ground.

Spot me 2 feet in the WOB too? :D

So Frank has to throw the sheaf 2' higher than Dickens to win? Sounds about right.

Hey, Mike Wills is my witness, Frank agreed to a -2 (negative two) foot spot on the sheaf. Haha. Marines, pffffft, like taking candy from a baby.

Hey Mike,

I'd take the LWFD, Hammer, and WOB action but I don't know if we will be throwing against each other this year. When we talked at the Vierra clinic (I was just going to type clinic and it read like we were getting a check-up together) you did not think you were going to make it to Corry this year. Is that still the case? I want to come to the ECCs again but gas prices might keep me in Ohio.

Good luck at Penn Ren everyone.

Jason Thomas

Ha! Jason, I accept you accepting of my offerings of challenges.

As for gas prices, you, and whoever will be traveling down with you, can lodge at Casa de Dickens. Anne Arundel is close enough to drive up the morning of. This offer is extended to anyone coming to Anne Arundel or Richmond. Truth be told, Casa de Dickens always has vacancies for any competitor traveling to the area for a competiton. :D

And, as for gas prices: I am going to pass a virtual hat and take donations to ensure that anyone who qualifies for the ECCs or the MASA championship can have their travel subsidized. I will call it the Highland Games Fellowship Travel Fund. I have already donated $20. ;)

I will make another post under the title of the fund to make sure everyone knows about it.

Fine, I'll spot YOU 2 feet in sheaf. But I noticed that you were strangely (for you) silent on my WOB challenge. Whasamatter, afraid of a 54 year-old jarhead? Did I skeer ya? :D

How 'bout if you lose, you have to yell "Semper Fi, Do or Die!!!" and if I lose I yell "Army Sucks!!" if you're worried about buying me all that beer and chow. ;)

Well "Frank" can't log in, but he asked me to mention the fact that Dickens owes him a sammich, and something about the caber. ;)

Yep, I owe a whole bunch of sammiches after the caber. I owe Sean, Frank, and Mike. Mike bought me a sammich for lunch after the HWFD.

btw, 32'10 was the winning throw. Not easy throwing a 56# off a trampoline.

And, 75' won the hammer.

Drew, I guess we can start laying some challenges out for Blue Crest.
