Highland Games Fellowship Travel Fund

Postby miked on Fri Jun 27, 2008 2:04 pm

In the interest of ensuring that everyone who qualifies for the East Coast Amateur Championships and the MASA championships can afford to attend, I propose and have established the Highland Games Fellowship Travel Fund.

The idea is for anyone who is willing and able to donate a few bucks to offset travel expenses for those who have to travel a long way to make it to the ECCs or Richmond. With the current state of gasoline prices I know that there are throwers who may qualify, but are considering not coming. That would simply stink. I think we all want to see the best competitors make it to these events.

I have nominated Holly for all fiduciary responsibilites concerning maintenance of the fund (I figured you guys and gals trust her more than me.) And, she has accepted.

If you would like to donate, just give Holly or me, or any member of the VMC, whatever you want to give and we will hold the funds until the first disbursement at the ECCs. I figure we can divide the money between the games and reimburse competitors based on how far they had to travel.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to ask me.

I have already donated $20.

In addition, any competitor who is traveling to the area for Anne Arundel, Richmond, or any games, is hereby invited to stay at Casa de Dickens to further defray any costs. You may have to do some chores, but that's still pretty close to free.

Most Excellent :!: I'm in, but I need your address since I probably won't see you for a while.

THANKS HOLLY! And give that adorable little assistant of yours a peck on the cheek for me.

I owe you two sammiches. And, I have already made them. They are in my fridge getting tastier. I just haven't had a chance to get them to you.

Don't forget to take them out a few hours ahead of time so you get a nice thick crust on the mayo.

I'll bring my appetite, $20 and a barf bag to practice tomorrow. ;)

Should be $45 if you count the $20 I gave Holly and the $5 you put in for my sammich.

Cheers.

Holly said she thought that was so she could buy a case of beer to help her make it through the weekend with me.

The HGFTG balance now stands at $45.

Any funds in excess of what is needed to help invitees make it to the ECCs and the MASA championship will invested in an end of the year suare( sp?) soire? . . . . party.

Or, anything that someone thinks is a better use of the funds, i.e for a cool ECC trophy passed to the winner from year to year (ala Pleasanton)

Hey MASAns,

I kind of let the HGFTF fall off the radar. Sorry about that.

Even though I won't be competing, I will be out this weekend to offer support, help mark, shag, talk smack (of course), etc., etc., etc.

I will also pass the hat to help fund th HGFTF and defray costs for anyone traveling a long way to compete this weekend.

I know that Samella BA may need to ride the train up, and there are several fellas coming up form SC.

The balance still stands at $45. Frank "Legend" Henry is the only person to have actually donated so far, that being $20 and a sammich.

So, yes, I will be soliciting this weekend.
