Frank won.
I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it.

We talked to Lee Last night on our drive home from NJ.

Frank was well behind intially including a 7th place Caber score  But battled back and won by 2.5 points!!!

Way to go Frank!
Trish: Colin go get your bike and put it away!

Colin: Okay but someone is going to swoop down, stop, take a picture and sell it on the internet.

MASA RULED AT MWC!
Frank Henry - 1st (All Hail the CHAMPION)
Pat Parker - 3rd
Pat Shema - 3rd (but she really got 2nd. The women that got 2nd chose not throw in 2 events and should have come in 4th)
Malcolm Doying - 3rd
Tim Ross - 7th (In a very tough class)
Mike Melia - ?

Thanks, and congrats to my fellow MWC MASA'ns Malcolm Doying and Pat Shema, Pat Parker, Tim Ross, and Mike Melia, who was throwing hurt. I hope they will weigh in with some comments from their age/gender groups, too. (You have to hear about Dean Ross from Malcolm-- Dean is one tough dude.)

In the 50-54's, (scores are posted) out of 9 events, (2 hammers, 2 stones) I won exactly 1 event. Mark Buchanan finished second with 3 wins, and Al Stagner finished in 3rd with 4 wins. A heck of a wild competition, made even crazier by about an hour or two of pouring rain, during which the comp kept right on going. I started off terribly with season worsts in the weights, followed by a horror show in the caber, (7th place with an 11:45) but somehow was consistent enough to win in the end. Or so they tell me, I'm hoping there was no math error.

I can't say enough about the competitors and the great organization and class act that Bill Scruggs and the folks at Saline put on. At the spaghetti dinner on Friday, the mayor even came and spoke to us and ate with us. They all just flat went all out. Fortunately the weather improved in the afternoon (the rain started with the first event) and I hope the festival was a success. Seemed like a decent crowd by afternoon, and the beer tent was pretty vocal.

Anyhow, it's great to be back. I still can't believe what a war it was, and how things finished up. Looking forward to hearing about how MASA did in Jersey!

Frank is of course the man as has been mentioned many times before on this board. He must be abusing stem cells to keep his youth and vigor.

Thanks again, and thanks also for the competition, comaraderie, BS, trash-talking, wagers, tips and all-around good times that makes our sport so great and worth the effort. 8-) Cheers to MASA and the mighty VMC, and to everyone who laces up and goes out to give it their best. :D

Congrats to all that competed. Looks like everyone did well.
So, where's the next MWC? I heard it was in some far away land.

Yep Gunny. It is in Inverness (that would be Scotland). Mid? July '09 (not sure of the exact date). The following weekend is the World Championships in Edinburgh. Sounds like a road trip to me :D .

The MWC will be July 18 & 19. It would be great to go, spend the week in Scotland, and see the world championships the next weekend in Edinburgh. But all of this will be part of "Homecoming Scotland," which will be a huge deal over there, and "The Gathering" in Edinburgh, which the world championships will be part of, is a major highlight of the homecoming activities. Which basically means that the city of Edinburgh is already pretty much booked for that weekend. If you want to go, make your Edinburgh plans NOW. If you can find accommodations, be prepared to pay way more than you normally would (and Edinburgh is already expensive).

Fortunately, the Inverness portion of the trip shouldn't be a problem.

We stayed at a couple of bed and breakfasts that the McClains recommended, and it was great. They generally cost much less than a hotel, and they usually provide a nice breakfast.
