WV - Strength sports capital of the world?

As if the Heavy Events World Championships weren't enough, this fall the World's Strongest Man will be held in West Virginia.

Trish: Colin go get your bike and put it away!

Colin: Okay but someone is going to swoop down, stop, take a picture and sell it on the internet.

No, not yet. It was just posted yesterday on Ironmind. There was an earlier story about a Phil Pfister stamp being released in Charleston on September 3, but that could be the starting date, or it could be done in advance. I'll keep checking Ironmind.

You really could make a case for WV being the strength capital of the world, especially on a per-capita basis. We have:

Brian Siders - Top powerlifter in the world (who isn't using hydraulic suits to lift the weight)
Phil Pfister - Winner of world's strongest man
Travis Bagent - Top left-handed arm wrestler and top-five right-handed arm wrestler in the world
Randy Barnes - Former world record holder in the shot put

If you go back a few years you also pick up Luke Iams, Mighty Chuckie Dunbar, and Willie Williams. We do alright in the strength world I guess.

Wait, when did anyone beat Randy Barnes shot put mark? As far as I knew it he is the current world record holder in the shot put. Unless you are counting him out for drug violations, but he is the current record holder.
