Introductions

Postby Gunny on Wed Jan 30, 2008 8:39 pm

Hey everyone, Newbie here.
I may have met a couple of you before, at the the Maryland Renesaince Festival.
Did the caber toss there for the first time and am interested in trying more of the events.
Who know's, I get addicted pretty easily.
The brief me:
I'm a retired Marine, retired adventure racer (yeah, those multi day races are rough on a person), and still trying to show my kids that I'll never be a couch potato. Married a Scottish woman a couple years ago and she loves the way I look in a kilt. What can I say?

I'd like to come out to a practice if possible, and would love to compete at the April Celtic Festival.
If I can finish without dropping a weight or stone on my head, I'll most likely come back for more punishment.

Oh, I won't do the Caber Catch. Looks painful.

Anyway, Just saying HEY!

Hey there Gunny - Where do you live? I will line up some training partners (if there are any in your area).

Shoot me a private message with your phone number and I can call you.

Lol, you keep making me a Grant Bryan. Not that I have anything against the Grants, they make a nice collapsible sporran cup, but I am a Wright ;)

Anyway, that is about a 2 hour drive for me :(

My door is always open for training on the Island though! I have space and equipment for any brave enough to make the journey.

P.S.

As soon as it warms up a bit I am planning on having a day of 1 ton Army truck pulling and VW lifting. Gotta love workouts that involve lifting or pulling vehicles. Especially when one of them is a 1952 M37 Ammo hauler ;)

Trying to put a face to the name. Sorry, I've got a horrid memory. (plenty of pictures, just no names)
Coming up that way wouldn't be that bad for a weekend workout.
I'm planning on cutting a practice caber this weekend. Nothing too heavy, just long enough to work on balance and timing.
Also going to weld up a couple weights.
If I can get the wife to clean out the spare room, I'll be able to find my Bowflex again!

Thanks for the welcomes.

I was one of the four guys that came to help Pat out on Sunday. Bald with the beard. I had a messed up back so I was probably throwing with my weight belt on. That would be the meathead part shining through! :)

I might be game for a weekend drive as well. Maybe we could meet up with the Va. guys for one of their throwing days. That is usually a lot of fun, and pretty much all of the guys you will be throwing with except for some of the Pa boys and shore boys. ;)

hmm, Eric Wright....
think; burly Neil Young. Or a *slightly* younger Santa Claus. With tatoos. In a kilt.

I don't know who this Eric Grant guy is... ;)

How did you know about the Neil Young thing? and stop hanging out with Joe! If he starts rubbing off on you, you'll never get the stain out! lol

j/k Joe, you know I luv ya like a brother. Well, we'll keep the one night a secret and blame it on the Scotch.

Malcolm, I'll give you a call this evening. I'd like to try and make that practice Sunday.

Eric, nice avtar. Too funny. You wore the black Pagan shirt, right?
You remind me of the "Ugly Christian Biker" shirt I have. Bald head, beard, and a face only a mother could love.

Welcome aboard, Gunny. Good luck with the training. You have a plethora of knowledge to tap into in the MD/VA area. See you at SoMo unless you make the Vierra clinic at the end of March in Vienna, VA. I started my Highland games with a mini-clinic at the end of '06 that proved to be worth the time and effort. Great way to start a career as a thrower.
