big gene, its hard to cut back on lifting.. i want to do both strongman and highlands. i will try to focus more on throwing over the next 6 weeks, but when i look at the list of masters(you, gerard, frank, and gunny) i am wondering why i am working so hard for last place. :( :(

Well if your still doing strongman you have to keep the lifting up!!! What strongman comp you doing next? Your going to do the Highlander at BSG right? Masters? braemar and wob... You should put the time in on the put... Once you come to an understanding of the stone it will help with the weight throws... This sat. 1pm- you in?

gene i am doing bsg contest in april as a master, then maryland, and a strongman in new bern in may after that i have only our games on my list unless brute does another contest in the summer. the stone right now is giving me a fit, i have pain from my elbow to my wrist during the throws. but i still throw,as my son is throwing shot in track so i throw with him. wob is doing ok, caber has come along good, and hammers are still around the same distance. if we are not working saturday i plan on coming, but i will let you know for sure.

First of all, I hope you're gliding and not spinning-- the glide is much easier to learn. The spin technique doesn't add much if any distance, and you usually get less consistent results. With either one, keep your upper body back as long as you can after your hips turn to create tension/torque. Stay low to maximize leg drive. As you start the leg drive, let your hips come around while staying back with your upper body, then pull with your off arm as you push with your throwing arm. The off arm does a lot of the work; it helps pull your shoulders around. Follow through and finish with a snap of your wrist in the direction of the throw. watch some film on You Tube; be sure you're watching a 50+ thrower-- hard to throw that far with sucky technique! And whatever you do, doen't watch Gene! :D

Hey Tim, nice throwing with you at Southern MD.

I think you're right; you are super strong, you just really need to work your technique. Lots of free videos on YouTube, just make sure you're watching the right guys. I think Ryan has some free videos on his site, too.
