poetry from my Daughter

She is 11 and the following I am not making up. She actually turned in for a grade.

Free Form Poetry

Oceans
Deep, blue
Filled with food
And one of those great wonders

Volcanoes, tsunamis
Destroyer and helper
And filled with salty water

We swim,
Play,
Surf and fish
And sometimes people drown
Trish: Colin go get your bike and put it away!

Colin: Okay but someone is going to swoop down, stop, take a picture and sell it on the internet.

WTF. What are you feeding her? Or are you? Deep Blue filled with food? Awesome poetry Cathrine. It is both current yet philosophical.

I love it! Ugh, but I'm a little twisted. I think it's great though. 8-)

WOW! That's talent. I hope she got an A for it. Tell her to keep it up. A book of poetry from a talented 11 year old could be worth something. Yea Catherine! :D

Hahaha....a girl after my own heart. It reminds me of when I was in college to be an elementary school teacher and we were to write, illustrate and bind a short children's book for class. Mine was called "Sammy the Slug" and in the end Sammy the cute little slug who treks across a huge patio each day is sprinkled with salt by some kids and comes to his demise (which I illustrated by crinkling up brown construction paper in a slug shape and drawing a frown on his face).

Looking back I realize that I could've been the Stephen King of children's book authors. And it's no wonder I opted out of being responsible for shaping inumerous children's futures. My former roommate use to keep that book out as a coffee table book and would make visitors to our place read it for a good laugh.

Good for Catherine, though. I seriously don't think my poetry would've been that good at 11!
